How to Share Public Records

This site depends on donations of hard earned public records volumes, submitted by reporters, nonprofits, gadflies, and government agencies. If you would like to support us by publishing a volume of records to our site, please read the following directions. Your donation of time and energy will help to keep this information free and available to the public--and hopefully this will help to keep our democracy free and open to the public.

Creative Commons Publisher is a tool which allows you to publish any digital information you want to the internet archive. Put the files you wish to share in a compressed folder (zip file) and publish them using the Creative Commons Publisher.

You will have to then use the official BitTorrent client to create a ".torrent" file (torrent) online, hosted on bittorrent.com. This torrent will allow the public to download and share the original file (now hosted on the Internet Archive) faster.

Once these steps have been completed, please create a login for this website, and once your account has been approved, publish the relevant news story to our site, with a link to the original news story, and a link to the torrent.

If all goes well users will be able to read the news story, download the relevant public records and write a follow up story, letter to the editor, poem or anything else they are inspired to do. The information will be better utilized by the community and freedom of information will prevail.

Alternatively, you could upload the records volume directly to the Internet Archive and click "upload."
